Frequently Asked Questions...
33 weeks pregnant...BAD sciatic nerve pain?
I've had sciatica off and on for the past 6 or so years. Now as I'm progressing further along into my first pregnancy, it is back and hurts more than ever. Today I could hardly walk at work and literally had tears in my eyes and cringed in pain with every step I took. Nothing is helping to alleviate the pain. I've tried Tylenol, heating pad (worked at first), stick-on patches, and I even have a custom fit Mother-To-Be brace. The brace helps knock out the pain a little, but not alot and it is really uncomfortable to wear at work when I'm on my feet and constantly bending/moving and the baby doesn't seem to really like it when I have it on (it feels like he's wiggling like a fish out of water). Does anybody have any advice or know of any exercises I can do to help me deal with this pain because it is completely unbearable? Thank you!
Answer:
i hear ya! I'm going through the same thing. Talk to your doctor about it and they can refer you to a physical therapist while you are pregnant. if you OB refers you than your insurance should pay for it.
I have my first PT appointment this week. My doctor said they will show me some exercises to do to help with the pain but for the most part its a free massage! I guess getting a massage once a week until you deliver can help with the sciatic nerve pain. I hope it does. We have a 2 year old that i have to chase around all day and some times I end up in tears because it hurts so bad to move.
Also, try some prenatal yoga. It has helped me some. It doesn't take all of the pain away but it helps.
