A Haunted Masterpiece?
A local production called the innocents finally opened showcasing the talent of local stars. And once you look at the set, there is a portrait, the subject of many strange tales. It has been said that an unknown individual has held on to this picture for quite some time. The lady was said to be traveling down the road when her eyes caught this photo and she had to park and buy it, for reasons even she cannot figure out. She stood there thinking about how she cannot afford that photo, but nothing could stop her from purchasing it as she stood at the counter. Before her kids headed back to school, she needed to buy clothes, supplies and books for them. Thinking to herself, she will not buy this for even if it was so beautiful she could not afford it and she will tell that to the clerk. This lady just had to blurt out, in a very loud voice, that she just had to get the painting no matter her financial situation, and this stopped the clerk from returning the portrait.
The lady, after paying and walking out of the antique store wondered how exactly she allowed herself to buy it when she could not even afford it, and how she was possibly going to explain to her husband as soon as he finds out about her ridiculous compulsion that made her buy that painting. This masterpiece was in oil and was created between the late 1800's or early 1900's, showcasing a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound. The Borzoi in the picture was painted in an almost straight on pose, capturing only the head and shoulders of the wolfhound and this something that someone whose eyes are familiar with the Borzoi should be able to point out, apart from the fact that it was a very alluring piece of art. But as you look at the chest and shoulders, you will see it's not proportional.
Absurd is the fact that even as the woman was extremely familiar with how a Borzoi should look like, she still went ahead and got it. Eerily, when her husband came home that night, the lady was initially scared that he would get mad as she bought that before the things needed by their children, but then it was so ironic that he also felt some attraction towards it like she did. There have been many pictures taken by amateurs and experts of the portrait and yet no two photographs have ever come out quite the same. There are occasions when the dog portrait would show a spectral face on its right side, then at some times it would look flat then 3 dimensional in others, but at most times, whether the portrait would appear as either black and white or in full color, strange lights would seem to emanate from it.
I certainly do not think that there is something strange about this portrait for we can just blame it on too much imagination and perhaps some kind of light reflections, shared the husband when he and his wife discussed the possibility of an entity accompanying the portrait they bought. It was creepy how a large ceramic plate which hung on the wall fell to the ground but as they saw it, it was not broken and neither did it have a crack.
The couple readily agreed to have their portrait loaned to the producer director of the playhouse for his play, the innocents, which was about the supernatural after he heard so much about the portrait and thought that it would be s great add on to his production. Openly, they discussed with the producer that the portrait might have something mystical about it, specifically something that entered their home the day they bought it and they believe that letting him use this for his show can shed some light to their queries. This what they are at least hoping for.
